Canadian Whisky Book Wins Gold

January 12, 2014

Twitter was alive this morning with the news that Canadian Whisky: The Portable Expert has been selected as the Wine, Beer, or Spirits book of 2012 by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. The prize was announced at an awards ceremony held last night in San Francisco.  My friend and fellow Malt Maniac, Tim Puett accepted the award on my behalf.  Many thanks to you, Tim, and to all those who have been sending me messages of congratulations.  I am very, very happy.

At the presentation ceremony Tim thanked my wife and family for their support, my editor, Philip Rappaport, agent, Denise Bukowski, and all the folks at Random House – Doug Pepper, Bhavna Chauhan, Josh Glover, Randy Chan, Lindsey Reeder and so many others.

Thank you as well to Jane Cameron, Kevin Burns, Ted Britton, Lawrence Graham, Mark Gillespie, Johanne McInnis, Emmett Hossack, Andrew Ferguson, David Cheoros, Jennifer Cockrall-King, John Greenwell, and all the folks who have worked so hard to get the word out that the book was available. And a huge thank you to Brita Belliveau and Pamela Peddle at Chapters. And to those I may not have mentioned – forgive me, I am just waking up and am euphoric.

Canadian Whisky: The Portable Expert is available at Chapters Indigo, Barnes and Noble, most major book sellers in Canada and the U.S. and worldwide on Amazon.

  2. Piers Stronge:

Many many congratulations on a well earned highly deserved Gold. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, was excited before it came out after our emails about ‘things in the works’ the summer before, and my two copies (one signed, one for re-visiting and lending) sit proudly on the bookshelf next to Michael Jackson’s Malt Whisky Companion (#6 and final).

Come back to Calgary again, I totally forgot to bring the Hirsch 20yr old last time

    • Davin:

Thank you Piers! I’ll be back.

  3. Irene:

    Hi Davin,

    well done and well deserved.

And mopre so because it is an award which surely was not gained by extensive sponsoring of the awarding event. 8-)

  8. Robbie:

Hi Davin. Really enjoying your book, nice to have something to reference when talking about spirits made in our country. I have one question re the maturing barrels at Gimli. Are there really 1.4 million barrels on hand in that location? I have driven by many times and had no idea.
Congrats on your award for the book.
    Wee Robbie
